Cancer Cells
암세포
Cancer begins in cells, the building blocks that make up tissues. Tissues make up the stomach and other organs of the body.
Normal cells grow and divide to form new cells as the body needs them. When normal cells grow old or get damaged, they die, and new cells take their place.
Sometimes, this process goes wrong. New cells form when the body doesn't need them, and old or damaged cells don't die as they should. The buildup of extra cells often forms a mass of tissue called a growth, polyp, or tumor.
Tumors in the stomach can be benign (not cancer) or malignant (cancer). Benign tumors are not as harmful as malignant tumors:
암은 세포 속에서 시작된다. 세포는 조직을 만드는 재료이다. 조직은 위나 신체내 다른 기관을 만든다. 정상적인 세포는 몸의 필요에 따라 새로운 세포를 형성하기 위해 성장하고 분화한다. 정상세포가 늙거나 손상을 입으면 죽는다. 그리고 새로운 세포가 그 자리를 대신한다. 때로는 이 과정이 잘못된다. 몸에 필요하지 않을 때에도 새로운 세포가 형성된다. 그리고 늙은 세포나 손상된 세포는 죽어야함에도 죽지 않는다. 여분의 세포의 생성이 종양이나 용종이라 불리는 조직덩어리를 형성한다.
위속의 종양은 양성이나 악성이 될 수 있다. 양성종양(암이 아님)은 악성종양(암)만큼 해로운 것이 아니다.
Benign tumors:
-are rarely a threat to life
-can be removed and usually don't grow back
-don't invade the tissues around them
-don't spread to other parts of the body
양성 종양
- 거의 생명에 위협이 되지 않는다.
- 제거할 수 있고, 대개는 재발하지 않는다.
- 주변의 조직으로 침입하지 않는다.
- 신체의 다른 부위로 퍼져나가지 않는다.
Malignant tumors:
-may be a threat to life
-often can be removed but sometimes grow back
-can invade and damage nearby organs and tissues
-can spread to other parts of the body
악성 종양
- 생명에 위협이 될 수 있다.
- 가끔은 제거할 수 있다. 그러나 때로는 재발한다.
- 주변의 조직이나 기관에 침입하거나 손상을 준다.
- 신체의 다른 부위로 퍼져나간다.
Stomach cancer usually begins in cells in the inner layer of the stomach. Over time, the cancer may invade more deeply into the stomach wall. A stomach tumor can grow through the stomach's outer layer into nearby organs, such as the liver, pancreas, esophagus, or intestine.
Stomach cancer cells can spread by breaking away from the original tumor. They enter blood vessels or lymph vessels, which branch into all the tissues of the body. The cancer cells may be found in lymph nodes near the stomach. The cancer cells may attach to other tissues and grow to form new tumors that may damage those tissues.

위암은 위의 내벽에 있는 세포에서 대개 시작한다. 시간이 지남에 따라, 암은 위벽속으로 더 깊이 침투할 수 있다. 위의 종양은 위의 외벽을 통하여 자라나서, 간이나, 췌장 식도, 혹은 장과 같은 이웃 장기로 퍼져나간다. 위암 세포는 최초의 종양으로부터 터져버림으로써 퍼져나간다.
암 세포는 신체의 각 조직 속으로 갈라져있는 혈관이나 림프관으로 흘러간다. 암 세포는 위 가까이에 있는 림프절에서 발견될 수 있다. 암 세포는 다른 조직에 붙을 수 있고 그 조직에 손상을 줄 수 있는 새로운 종양을 형성하기 위해 성장한다. 암이 퍼지는 것은 전이라 불린다.
